Common Land at Soapstone -
right down by the spring head

A lovely pathway winds through the 9 plus acres of Common Land at Soapstone Ridge. Slightly sloping hills and valleys as you hike through the woods make for good exercise.

On one side you will see a small stream as you hike along and on the other side there is an actual Indian quarry where hundreds of years ago Indians made pottery and utensils out of the abundant Soapstone found on the property. Great for exploration and adventure. Soapstone is very soft and is wonderful for carving and even more useful today in heating.

As you wind around the pathway you will come to an area that is more open and lends itself to picknicing and relaxing, maybe even some gardening. Sit very still up against a log and watch for birds, deer, turkey, rabbits and even flying squirrels, as well as other life in this mountain wildlife habitat.
